The album ‘Stunden’ proved in 2011 that this particular meeting of ambient minds (Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Stefan Schneider) works rather well. Here they follow it up with ‘Tinden’, which works generally by taking some soothing piano loops and dressing them with electronic interventions, so that you get flecks and glitches on the texture. It’s especially effective in the opening ‘Umstunden’, which sets the pace and the tone for the whole album. ‘Toast’ is a nice track with subtle electronic coating, while ‘Indie Woogie’ is very calming, its title giving away a little of the subtle humour that can also be found running through the album. Effortlessly made, this is a record that sounds lazy on the surface but rewards closer listening with some subtle and beautiful detail.
