Sublimely-atmospheric deep space excursion from Tokyo’s DJ Alex and producer Isao Kumano with spoken contributions from poet Rich Medina. Like The Black Dog they create their own electronic world, creating a sound from the soul through the machines. A gopher floats by in swimming trunks. The scene is set by the bottomless orchestral strings and pads of ‘Powder Dreams’ [somewhat recalling 90s UR], spaced dub textures and muted percussion creeping in on tracks like ‘Violent Rush’ and ‘Deep Sea’. ‘Game Over’ sports computer game effects while ‘Black Star’ plants Rich’s rich tones over a gorgeous NY-style deep house shuffle which could be Strictly Rhythm circa 1990. ‘Reincarnation’ is simply jawdropping the way it builds the haunted melodies into a monolithic slab of techno heaven before the old school Chicago vocals slide in. This startling outing never stops morphing and inventing and could be as deep as it gets.
