The Jaydes – The Jaydes – Dame Music

Bloody Mary and Attan have been hard at work in their studio, fine tuning their ‘Jaydes’ collaboration and creating this gloriously self-assured, self-titled album. It’s a vintage, analogically constructed world, where nu disco meets techno and tech house head on for greedy consumption by the listening and dancing masses. The nine track journey leads you softly through Bloody Mary and Attan’s personal history of house and techno, juxtaposing its acid and alkali, beats and rhymes, power and vulnerability, the ’80’s and ’90’s, masculine and feminine sides to stunning effect. Guest featurings from Hollis P Monroe, Overnight and Mama turn the pressure up without overpowering or overshadowing the album’s credibility. And my highpoint? ‘Race for Embrace’ feat Mama is the stand out vocal track that booms and bangs into your jilted heart like Cupid on ketamine. And don’t fast forward the acid house opus that is ‘Area 89’ with its ‘from side to side’ looped vocal – it’s ripe for picking for any huge illegal rave in an undiscovered field somewhere. Music by craftspeople for oficianados.
