You won’t need much of a treble setting for this mix from Will Saul, the man behind Simple Records. The set is a darkly coloured breaks/house hybrid, easily paced and seamlessly mixed. Tracks come from Saul himself, Bristol’s Sideshow and Austria’s Hinteanus, the latter making effective use of a muted trumpet. Overall the texture and sound tend to be a bit grey, but there’s enough rhythmic variety to compensate, with the best moment when Saul’s ‘Fast Line’ gives way to the house beats of Sideshow’s ‘Slide’. A promising first long player from a label to be watched.
