Regardless of what they say, you can actually get too much of a good thing, and if you need a recent example, look no further than the vastly over-populated re-edit / blends market. Nowadays your average re-edit bandit has got to try that little bit harder to stand out from the crowd, which is exactly what the somewhat minimally named AMS has done. Taking Blondie’s classic “Rapture”, they’ve cleverly built a new, meatier intro, with added samples and much, much crowd teasing going on. It builds for what feels like an eternity (even using elements of the original dub / inst as well), before finally giving a shortened but extremely effective pay-off, then dropping back to the new beats for the outro. Flip-side features a strong re-work of Cameo’s “It’s Serious” but the action is with Blondie.
