Jazzman Gerald’s label for newly recorded music doesn’t release that much, so when it does, you know to sit up and pay attention. Das Goldenes Zeitalter (The Golden Age) is made up of members of Poets Of Rhythm, Heliocentrics and Soul Destroyers, here let loose to create some outlandish rhythms that – even though the press release opts for the tag ‘ethnic funk’ – is probably about as close that funk and jazz gets to the sound of punk. A hard-hitting three tracker that’s not for the faint hearted. Meanwhile, the group also provide backing and production for Bajka’s single, a sublime vocal jazz moment that owes as much to Billie Holiday as it does the 70’s spiritual style which it aims for. Real vibes from the tribes.
