This is an unusual release, with a different artist on each side and the aim of spreading the TwentyHz sound across three Eps to highlight the current state of the breaks coming out of Vancouver. DJ Wood enlightens with a journey back in time to the golden days of funk. This is really organic sounding and produced with a warmth lacking in a lot of today’s outings onto vinyl. There’s an abundance of brass and probably about 3 horn sections accompanying the little James Brown lookalike bashing out his un-holy groove on a dirty little bassline synth. Jimmy Towers, on the other hand, digs a little less deep into his crate and goes for a minimal house funk breaks style that sounds more progressive and modern in a controlled way that is being closely monitored by a production line of Detroit robots programmed to inject a machine generated groove into the audio.
