KEI KOBAYASHI / DJ VANNE
IT’S JUST BEGUN IN AFRICA / IT’S JUST MACHINEGUN
ROUTINE FUNK (JAPAN)

Wow! Two utterly essential blends / re-edits which are just so deviously simple you wonder why no-one’s done it before now.  Kei Kobayashi re-works Urban Allstar’s “It Began In Africa” (the old Norman Cook cut ‘n’ paste job) and cleverly weaves in Jimmy Castor Bunch’s breaks classic “It’s Just Begun”, chopping the breaks and the horn riff to maximum effect.  DJ Vanne threads the Chemical Brothers’ “Block Rockin’ Beats” with it’s original source material, namely 23 Skidoo’s “Coup” & Schoolly D, with some “It’s Just Begun” thrown in for good measure.  Written down, it might look crowded and overly busy, however, in practice, it’s perfect DJ fodder for when you want to blow the place apart.  Lino’s at the ready…
