Merka’s been causing some ripples on the breaks circuit with his appearance on The Freestyler’s Fabriclive CD and his Holding On single from last year. For his Fat! debut, he shows he’s all about the business end of things, with “Hug A Speaker” showing some old-skool hip-hop savvy (and samples, natch) mixed with stomping digitised beats and funky acid lines. The bass levels are immense, so watch those bins. “I’ll Be There” adopts a late night stance, a little more reflective thanks to the eerie female vox, but the taking no prisoners attitude is still well and truly present.
