Merka’s definitely got his own template, fusing film references, trumpet sounds, techy bleeps and speaker-wobbling bass, yet he never forgets that all important beat, and somehow, he manages to keep it all together. In theory, it should be cheesy as fuck. In practice, it goes off like you wouldn’t believe, either on the excellent “My Spaceship”, or the darker, more menacing “Act Now”. Full length album due early next year. Here’s hoping he continues to get the balance just so.
