Mr Tubbs has clearly been filling his head with that ‘Baltimore’ sound and the evidence is here for all to hear and wiggle their arse to! The stripped back crunk beats with all their claps and eighties electronic drum sophistication (!) and so many samples and stabs pilfered from decades of vinyl show that the breadth of influence is wide. Every breakbeat, rave stab, old school hip hop sample and voluminous bending, bouncing, bassline has been meticulously crafted into a lo-fi, hi-fi, future old school, booty-rave-ghetto-electro-funk monster that, on evidence so far, is going to be moving dance floors for some time. In a refreshingly unpretentious way. Loving ‘Gangsters’, ‘Phenomenal’ and ‘Pop Music’.
