As side A begins, a schlock-horror Vincent Price-a-like declares: “Lost deep within in the soul of all mankind, there is a hidden cauldron of terror, fed by the flames of madness”. And Lo! We descendeth into the murky depths of Roxiller’s breakbeat hell as Chris Carter and JHz lead us down a late night cemetery path few fear to tread. An electro-beat provides the early tension before you’re impaled by the terrifying flesh-tearing zombie of a bass-line. The club-moment reels you in with a b-movie horror series of detuned chords. The reanimated bass beavers away under threshing percussion, and wallop: the dance-floor gets a stake, right through its heart. Inspite of side B’s poly-rhythmic and more experimental vibe, breakbeats come little more edgy than this 12″. This is the “heavy heavy monster sound” of Roxiller. Its f*cking big and its damn clever.
