Yes, it’s Detroit’s awesome techno timelords but firing on their original funk cylinders with seismic effect. U.R. is currently undergoing one of their periodic bursts of activity and this has been about for a while but it’s too good to overlook as the groove heaves and humps a mighty funk beast that harks back to the roots of black music. ‘Ma Ya Ya’ is a Meters-style chant delivered with deadly syncopated dynamics, although the stabs and toughness are pure UR. Meanwhile, ‘Swamp Thing’ is astoundingly dirty, like a P-Funk orgy on Mars. The bayou flavour is heightened by a rampant accordion. Just another startling string to one of the most deadly bows in dance music!
