Those with previous Beatphreak experience will know they’re a bit tasty at anything they turn their hand to. But as the title suggests here, they’re most at home chewing on funk-hued soul food, throwing obvious comparisons to Morcheeba with the vocal talents of Laura Thistlethwaite at the helm of lazy day, papers-and-duvet easy listening. BP’s auxiliary versatility brings large dancehall brock-out ‘Skadub’, politer dub mover ‘Hurricane’, ‘Lil Hammond’ keeping the breaks stashers happy and party-thrower ‘Gospel Nights’. Far from an uncomfortable union, ‘The Art’ stretches in its comfy chair before jumping out of it and landing neatly.
