With a debut top 10 pop hit already under their belts, the timing couldn’t be better, yet whilst “I Like The Way “epitomised all that was cool and trendy in clubland – fusing a menacing vocal listing the qualities of their admiration before launching into a fiercely distorted grungy riff-a-ramma – the balance of this album is pure rock, and without a sizeable dance kick-drum or funky bassline in sight. Coloursounds’ Dylan Burns and Australia’s premier deck general Kaz James, are the men behind the music, and happily wear their Franz Ferdinand and White Stripes influences for all to see. However once you get past the fact that this isn’t a “dance” album in the conventional sense, it really is exceptionally well conceived. “You Got Me Singing” a future hits-in-waiting; “Round & Round” with its ZZ Top “Legs”-influences should similarly make the grade, as could the Nine Inch Nails-feel of “Dignity” and “Keep Your Boots On” that parodies Primal Scream’s “Rocks”. It ain’t disco people, but there’s nowt wrong with that either.
