What the Unisex people lack in titular imagination, they more than make up for with track selections. ‘East Coast Hip Hop’ concerns itself with the jazzier / soulful side of hip-hop, something that Richy Pitch is well acqainted with, having worked the crowds with such similar sounds as resident for New York’s Scratch. Familiar names like De La Soul, Talib Kweli, Pete Rock, and Slum Village will give a flavour of what to expect, all of them working perfectly alongside newer artists like Little Brother, Jneiro Janel, Maspyke (the cool bassline bumping “No Big Deal”), all capturing that laidback, jazz-inflected, headnod sound in their own style, be they from New York, Michigan, Ohio, Philadelphia or North Carolina.
