ESSENTIAL
BOOGIE FLAVAS
SALSOUL/SUSS’D

Perhaps one of the most accessible of the recent Salsoul compilations drawing on tracks from the early-’80s that the London pirate stations at the time coined as ‘boogie tunes’. Built on a solid foundation of funk, disco percussion, and predominately male call/response vocals, this collection features material including The Jammers’ ‘Be Mine Tonight’, ‘You Can Do It’ from Vaughn Mason and ‘Please Don’t Go’ from Slave trumpeter Steve Washington, and of course the godfather of boogie, Leroy Burgess with ‘Stranger’, and under this Logg alter ego, ‘Something Else’. With further contributions from Aurra, Skyy, the Strangers, Surface and Jimmy Williams, Jeremy Newall and Ian Dewhirst should be commended on an essential nostalgia trip from the vaults of one of the most influential labels of an era.
