NORTHERN JAZZ
SOUTHERN SOUL
SLIP N SLIDE

After their selection of soulful, jazzy and summer sounding House music compilations the label expands their horizons to release this tasty blend of the downright funky alongside the spiritually uplifting. This is full of references to yesteryear, take for example Shirley Bassey’s “Light my fire” though here its presented with a distinctive modern twist as its been updated by Kenny Dope. This combination of old and new is a theme that runs straight through the CD. And so to kick things of Lonnie Liston Smith’s seminal “Expansions” makes a most welcome start to what can only be described to you as a thoroughly enjoyable journey through all that’s good in music. From Incognito’s Doobie Bros cover “Let the music play” to Byron Stingly’s down tempo soulful falsetto on “Bitter” this all hits the spot.  A bit of variation to sign post the way forward.
