The scope of the music to be found on this double mix CD from DJ, producer and liquid sounds/Dragonfly label boss Pathaan is fairly breathtaking. He started DJing alongside Talvin Singh at the Anokha club but since then has traversed the globe, including a stint as David Bowie’s tour DJ. Here, with CDs named Beats & D ‘N’ Bass and Tech Breaks he straddles a wide variety of electronic genres all woven together with a personal organic flow of his own. It’s a welcome change that not all the names are household or compilation regulars. CD1 includes lush tackle you may not have encountered by such as DJ Click, Voom Voom, Aiwa, Ursula 1000, D-Code, Visionary Underground and a German producer called Eastenders, starting ambient but upping the ante as the set progresses. The more familiar corkers on CD2 kick off with Trentemoller’s ‘Prana’ before the wonderful Silicone Soul and on to Abakus, Madox and Evil Nine’s great ‘Hired Goons’ and the Switch remix of Coldcut’s ‘True Skool’, closing with Ils’ ‘Music Makers’. Ultimately though tracks can’t be singled out as this is one of those sets which works as one huge, blissful whole.
