Sven Vath
In The Mix: The Sound Of The Eighth Season
Cocoon

Sven looks set to start a season in panto on the cover but safe to say here again is one of the year’s most anticipated annual events – his aural souvenir of Cocoon Ibiza, the island’s most riotous club. As ever, two CDs try and cage a selection of tunes which either blew the roof off or massaged the loins into that plateau of untouchable euphoria which remains special to Sven. Only those who’ve experienced him any time in the last 17 years will know. For me, the highlights are Carl Craig’s monstrous remix of Junior Boys’ ‘Like A Child’ and Joris Voorn’s ‘The Deep’ but every one’s a winner, names including Jamie Jones, Plan Tec, Steve rachmad, Alter Ego, Tolger Fidan, Rene Et Gaston and Pepe Bradock. The overall feel seems bright and lovely, more subtly melodic, working its magic from the inside out and occasionally popping its cork with a new style of headfuck as aptly-titled The Amazing’s ‘Qu’ Est-Ce Que Vous Voulez’ deals out a mighty new drug anthem. Acid pokes out its little silver bell-end too on delights like J.T.C.’s ‘Take ‘Em Off’ and Claude VonStroke’s mix of Worthy’s ‘Irst Te?’ lets fly with incredible hippo flatulence as goats masturbate furiously. Of course you had to be there but, once over the regret, this is a towering statement of electronic music’s amazing grace over the past year. If you were, you lucky bastards!
