With annoying promotional messages every twenty seconds throughout this record, it was sometimes difficult to tell what was what, let alone hear the rapping. Which is a shame, since the self-proclaimed hip hop jazz messenger has come up with some neat interpretations and expansions of older material. Chief among these is ‘Look To The Sun’, which effectively lifts elements of ‘Summer Breeze’, while the intricate rapping of guests Common, Blackalicious and Slum Village rubs shoulders with sweetly produced vocals from Caron Wheeler, Dionne Farris and Solar. A good late night venture into the jazz/hip hop interface.
