Various Artists – ‘Body & Soul – 15 Years Mixed By Francois K, Joaquin ‘Joe’ Claussell & Danny Krivit’ – (Ministry Of Sound)

VA - Body & SoulThis is a worthy tribute to something of an institution. The Body & Soul nights began right back in 1986 in New York, and were designed to fill a gap on a Sunday morning after the other clubs had finished. Here a starry array of DJ talent unites to remember those times, and on CD1 the happiness quotient is high thanks to Hugh Masekela’s ‘Don’t Go Lose It Baby’ and DJ Duke’s rolling ‘Tribal Journey, not to mention Whitney Houston’s ‘Love Will Save The Day’ and Soft House Company’s ‘What U Need’ as strong openers. The pace slows a bit for a blissful opening to the second mix, the strings all over Larry Levan’s remix of Esther Williams’ ‘I’ll Be Your Pleasure’, but soon things are moving again for a soulful New Jersey jazz mix of Coldcut’s ‘People Hold On’ and a blissful 808 State, reworked by Justin Strauss. One for the misty-eyed nostalgia seekers for sure, but also a pair of mixes any new blood should also be looking to get their hands on.
