When you get a new compilation from Brownswood a degree of rhythmic exploration can always be guaranteed. So it proves with the second ‘Electric’, which offers an intoxicating stew of funk, breaks and all sorts of other beats and bass lines. The crossed rhythms and fluctuating synths of Monky’s ‘Drunkerdz’ make for a striking track early on, while the beats to DJG’s ‘Automatic’ suggest a kind of electronic samba. Meanwhile Frederic Robinson crosses a genre or two with the soft timbres of ‘Mood Swings’, and the big hook on HxdB’s ‘Savage Pets’ shows how Brownswood can do main floor, big room just as well as dark corner, small room. As ever with this label, new discoveries abound at every turn.
