I can’t believe that it’s 15 years since Steve Bug started Poker Flat and yet in that time he has never wavered or faltered from the path of unearthing raw talent, curating and promoting underground house music and showcasing that through his production and dj’ing talents. As such, and over the last fifteen years, Steve Bug and Poker Flat itself has built a reputation for being at the cutting edge of underground music and of independent labels and has become respected as one of the music industry’s true all rounders.
So what about Four Jacks Part 1 ? Here we are treated to four jacking underground house tracks from four grand pubahs – Steve Bug (remixed by Taylor), Boris Dlugosch (remixed by the Organ Grinder) , youANDme and Tom Flynn. Bug’s ‘A Shot In The Dark’ is jacked and stacked, whilst Boris Dlugosch’s ‘Sweet Talk’ is punched and stamped by organ stabs then wrought into a whomp and stomp acid techno opus par excellence. ‘Quince’ is a strange fruit, building on a monotone guitar groove and phasing synths to create a dense and murky syncopated tech house groove. ‘She’s Nice’ bubbles, burbles and percolates into your headspace until your neurons have fully absorbed the groove and your whole body is dancing. A major milestone and release for Poker Flat.
