Unkle’s third album ‘War Stories’ is due to land on July 9th, in the
meantime to wet your appetite ‘Burn My Shadow’ has touched down, and it’s a
showstopper. James Lavelle & Richard File have drafted in The Cult’s Ian
Astbury, who delivers a sterling performance. ‘Burn My Shadow’ opens with an
acoustic riff, not too far off George Michael’s ‘Faith’, but don’t be fooled
kids, crunching drums come crashing in, giving off a paranoid feel, which
complements Ian Astbury’s gothic crooning to a tee. ‘Burn My Shadow’ is
packed with highs and lows, building to bursting point, then dropping to
velvet and mascara moments. ‘Burn My Shadow’ is one of Unkle’s best records
to date, so it’s looking good for ‘War Stories’, expectations are running
high, and if it’s as good this single, then they’ve had it off big time.
