A solid collection from the ever colourful DJ Spinna, showing his influences in a rich cocktail of jazz, funk, soul and early electronica. There can’t be too many compilations that include Herbie Hancock, Weather Report and The Supremes, but this is a well planned journey that makes the links seamless. Good, too to hear Newcleus’ ‘Automan’ in dub form, the inspiration behind the riff on Snap’s ‘Rhythm Is A Dancer’. Listening to both CDs in one go stretches it a bit, so the advice is to take them one at a time, allowing each of the different styles on offer to make themselves known.
