It’s good to see Slip ‘n’ Slide broadening their horizons with this compilation, concentrating less on vocal house and more on some rewarding jazzed-up funk and soul, hence the title! House still makes an occasional appearance in the lighter sense, with Incognito covering ‘Listen To The Music’, but this stage is set for real belters like Shirley Bassey’s rare version of ‘Light My Fire’, or atmospheric vocal storytelling from Pepe Deluxe in ‘Cruel Youth’. With other worthy examples from Linus Loves, Byron Stingily and Intuit, this is a diversion well worth making.
