Will Saul has the uncanny talent of being able to make slower house music
interesting all the way through – not as easy as it sounds! Under Saul’s
guidance this double CD release packs an impressive tension as it explores
his own productions and mixes on CD1, then broadens to take in Sideshow, Lee
Jones and the like on the second. Occasionally Saul references dub music,
most effectively on the Partial Arts remake of ‘Hug The Scary’, but just
when you think the tension is letting up he introduces a full-bodied beat to
make you take a step back – before you continue nodding your head or tapping
a foot in agreement. Atmospheric, funky in places and extremely assured – a
fine addition to Simple’s already excellent canon.
