Cr2’s reputation as a leading house light gets a further boost with this
upfront pairing. Dirty South offers fulsome beats and biting basslines in
the first mix, whether in the excellent Alter Ego remix of Partial Arts’
‘Trauermusik’ or tracks from Jim Rivers and Federico Franchi. Maverick’s mix
is the more varied and urgent of the pair though, with a trio of his own
productions – ‘Strings of Tortuga’, ‘The Rub’ and ‘Let’s Work’ – competing
for the limelight with Nicole Otero’s ‘Sunshine Song’. A third unmixed CD of
six of the tracks offers even more value. If you like your house music tough
and uncompromising but still with a bit of a groove, this one’s for you.
