What would you class as underground? Perhaps not Samim’s ‘Heater’ or Claude Von Stroke’s ‘Who’s Afraid Of Detroit’, at least not any more. Ministry Of Sound’s definition of Underground here seems to be the style of music – mostly dark, brooding house with bleeps aplenty, designed to be dance to in a club where you can barely see the person opposite. In that case this is a triple CD collection that mostly recommends itself, save for a third mix that sounds more uplifting and commercial. Welcome inclusions are from Martin Buttrich, Herbert, Zoo Brazil and Trevor Loveys, mixed quite clinically but nonetheless given enough room – only fourteen tracks per CD. So for dark and moody house music retaining a considerable amount of rhythmic interest, look no further.
