King Street Grooves have always specialised in dance music from the far east and in particular Tokyo, where founder Hisa Ishioka looks for his
inspiration once again. A lot of this music would sound at home on the
Californian coast as well – Jephte Guillaume, Studio Apartment and Mink all
good examples. While another mix of the Ananda Project’s admittedly
wonderful ‘Cascades of Colour’ might be pushing it a bit, the real eyeopener
here though is violinist Chieko Kinbara, whose ‘If You Only’ gets a sultry
workover by Kaskade. Something a bit different for those maxed out on US
vocal house.
