OK, so I’ve been a bit slow on the uptake on this one, but I would urge you to hear Emerson Todd’s new mix album if you’re a techno buff. Todd brings a fair amount of house music to his mix, not to mention a few tribal elements, and concentrates mainly on the percussion to get a real spring to the beats. This works really well with the inclusion of tracks such as Babak Shayan’s ‘Snake In The Grass’, which really starts to work some booty, and Jonas Kopp’s ‘Deliric’, which steps on the kick drum. Guy Gerber, Gavin Herlihy and ADF keep things moving, with Todd always applying that little bit extra to his mixing to keep the tempo crisp and the interest high. If you’ve not heard him before, he’s a talent to watch, with some deepness to the mix but always with an eye on the party on the floor. Excellent stuff.
