If you haven’t kept up with Soulstar’s Cafe Solaire series then there’s no cause for worry – but you’d be advised to join up, as it represents a less mainstream alternative to the likes of Hed Kandi and Bargrooves. William Harley chooses the closely blended selection that make up ‘Soul Emotion’, and while the tracks aren’t mixed they blend together really well. Jens Buchet, the Collective Sound Members, Sambox and Schwarz & Funk are particularly hot in this company. Meanwhile CD2 steps up the tempo under Lucia ‘Lucy Bee’ Barbiero, offering a classy new mix from Richard Earnshaw of Lenny Fontana and Joi Cardwell’s ‘Make It Alright’, having built up to this with smooth and groovy stuff from Tone Control, Bernard Badie and Mr Moon. Excellent stuff, whether you want a CD for deep chilling or one for prepping the night out.
