It’s been a long time – six years, all told – but Danny Tenaglia is back. And it doesn’t take long for him to make an impact, for he is one of the few DJs who can really create an atmosphere and a huge sense of anticipation before dropping his first beats. So it proves on both of these superb mixes, with Yello’s ‘Indigo Bay’ introducing heavy bass tension on CD1, then Fred Giannelli’s ‘Mid Life Crisis’ blending into Punto Cero’s ‘3Tempo3’ as part of a stop-start opening to CD2. The second CD is the more aggressive, and Gel Abril’s ‘Your Face Is A Mess’ is downright scary on headphones as Tenaglia ups the pace and beefs up the beats. Both CDs sport a combination of excellent mixing, imaginative track selection and Tenaglia’s customary close attention to detail, meaning that if this isn’t THE house compilation of the year, I’ll have to eat my cap.
