Hed Kandi’s ‘Mix’ series is a good way of keeping up with the more commercial end of dance music, though this one pulls an ace out of its sleeve by having a third CD of slower stuff from the likes of Laidback People, Holy Ghost and Out Of Sight. The first two CDs are packed with big house numbers, with those of special note Jack Penate’s ‘Be The One’, via the mixing desk of Armand Van Helden, Sharam’s ‘She Came Along’ and Pryda’s ‘Lift’. On the flip side an awful lot of these are inferior updates of old hits, and there really is no place anywhere for Chicane’s death by candlelight take on Sigur Ros. A mixed bag then – but still worth bearing with it for CD3 and the odd gem elsewhere.
