It’s something of a surprise to report the latest ‘Mix Collection’ left me relatively cold. Usually M.A.N.D.Y. are reliable sources of deeply atmospheric house music, but on this occasion something seems to be missing, a spark that doesn’t quite light. CD1 seems to pass at a slowish tempo, with cultured productions for sure among the selections by Lopazz, Bronnt Industries Kapital and Bomb The Bass. It’s just that there isn’t a huge sense of progression or emotional involvement among the DJs. CD2 picks up the pace a bit more, which works well initially with Kenny Larkin, Peter Kruder and the Beat Pharmacy’s remix of Tedd Patterson’s ‘Shattered’, but again this starts to flatten out, rather than pushing for the finish – which is difficult to explain given the quality on offer. Strangely uninvolving, even though the quality cannot be questioned.
