Steve Bug Presents Bugnology 3
Poker Flat

The veteran producer seems to be doing these Bugnology compilations every two years, obviously giving him time to work how best to represent what’s grabbing him and how it mirrors current dance music developments, which at the moment are very exciting indeed. Also there’s the major factor that Steve weaves his selection using an editing process which creates a proper journey or glistening pair of fine brocade underpants. It’s a delight from star [Anton Zap’s ‘Captain Storm’] to finish [October’s hallucinogenic  ‘Invitation’ which has the tough job of following the incredible Mr Fingers-riffing acid extravaganza ‘Inside out’ by Kink & Neville, which shows how little gap there is between modern minimal and old school Chicago – it’s just the technology that’s changed]. In between, Steve straddles a wide variety of electronic styles from Santiago Salazar’s melodic techno on ‘Materia Obscura’ through the classic Detroit sounds of George Kagais’ ‘The Beginning’ to the minimal-tribal gem which is ‘O Moresi’ by Sven UK and Andomat 3000. Other names/highlights include Manuel Tur, Adultnapper, Damian Schwartz, Mathias Meyer, Ben Klock, Pigon, Peace Division and Tigerskin’s ‘Peter’s Secret Weapon’, which samples Pink Floyd’s ‘Shine On You Crazy Diamond’ and seems to be popping up on a few comps at the moment. He also throws  in Moodymanc’s mighty ‘Preacher’, firing up the engine room of another towering selection.
