VARIOUS
THE BRAZILIAN FUNK EXPERIENCE
NASCENTE

Patrick Forge compiles and curates this latest Nascente compilation, subtitled “Rare Grooves From The EMI / Odeon Catalogue (1968-1989)”, and it’s good to have such an experienced hand guiding you through what is a huge wealth of material, proof positive that there’s more to Brazilian music than the Tropicala movement and The Girl From Ipanema.  With the exception of some artists who enjoyed some international success, like Joyce or Marcos Valle, chances are most of these artists will be unfamiliar, but you’ll certainly recognise some of the songs, either familiar breaks or basslines.  A rich heritage of funk and soul with that distinctive Brazilian approach.
