You wouldn’t place Yppah in Texas on first hearing, that’s for sure – Joe Corrales could just as easily hail from Eastern Europe, as his musical language could be compared with the likes of Skalpel. Earthy beats support an organic style that loosely incorporates jazzy influences. The active drum tracks go with slow moving melodic and harmonic material to make a wide sound picture – one concession to Texas landscapes, maybe – while Corrales’ previous time as a scratch DJ makes itself known around the edges. Once again a good find for Ninja from an unlikely source.
