EROL ALKAN – REWORKS VOL.1 (2017) – PHANTASY SOUND

Few people understand the art of the remix better than Erol Alkan, who is able to manipulate or complement his source material to please all but the most curmudgeonly party goers. Some of the best tracks here are the most unhinged, and the classic remix of Justice’s ‘Waters Of Nazareth’ definitely falls into that category – as does Death From Above 1979’s ‘Romantic Rights’. Some of the softer pop music benefits greatly from Alkan’s sharper touch – Tame Impala’s ‘Why Won’t You Make Up Your Mind’, Metronomy’s ‘The Bay’ and MGMT’s ‘Congratulations’ for instance – and all give the assurance that Alkan can do indie disco better than pretty much anybody else.
