The third in Fluxion’s Vibrant Forms sequence is a genuine artist album rather than a compilation, as the first two were. It falls into a familiar set of sound worlds, which is comforting – but they have the same dark undertones as parts one and two, meaning the music retains its subtle threat. The shadowy encounters of ‘Regional Shift’ set the scene for the dark, rolling beats of ‘Uncontained’, while ‘Gradual Approach’ proves typical of the drawn out, atmospheric Fluxion style. The sprawling ‘Variant’ shows how he can sustain his dark atmospherics over seemingly limitless periods of time, while the more energetic ‘Contact’ is excellent, benefiting from a tougher approach. Existing converts will need no persuasion.
