Maceo Plex & Jon Dasilva – Love Somebody Else – (Ellum Audio)

It’s been such a great year for music so far, and then this goes and happens. But what could be better than this collection of lush, soulful vocals from the one and only Joi Cardwell, who alongside deliciously dark electronics and the inevitable killer bassline, combine to ignite the airwaves. Does it get much better than this, probably not. The story behind the groove goes something a little like so: Maceo Plex hears Jon Dasilva’s unreleased remix of Colourblind’s cover of the Jones Girls 1979 hit ‘You Gonna Make Me Love Somebody Else’ sometime in the early nineties, and the pair have consequently reworked it into sounding more like today. The result you will have no doubt have heard already, so you will know the anticipation building for the release date. The flip side then sees Maceo Plex reimagining of Future Musik (A Tribute To Closer Musik) which blends progressive synthesizers together with his trademark funkiness to again sound thoughtful, yet provocative, over the course of nine minutes and counting.
