Ellum Audio will begin the year as they no doubt mean to go on with this excellent production from German duo Switchbox. But perhaps what sets this apart is the spoken vocal from NAtz whose distinctive new wave voice-over gives the track such a unique flavour, that of course and the brooding, undulating funkiness of the dark synthesizers and groovy beats. Label boss Maceo Plex and Danny Daze aka Jupiter Jazz then add a more driving tempo to the drums, while looping tense electronics and restraining the epic bassline until mid way, by which point it all rapidly evolves into a fevered intensity. To complete is the very impressive Switchbox remix of dreamAwaken ‘8 Bit In A Bit’ which supplies more sizzling energy and tripped out sounds that cumulate in a particularly notable breakdown, before returning.
