Four tracks of varying complexity go to make up Matthew Styles debut for Crosstown Rebels with each craving their own definitive niche. The punctuation that greets you via the EP’s opening, ‘Clandestine Emotions’ quickly becomes addictive with tempting stabs offset by a rolling bassline and crisp drums. The contrasting,’ Wrong Move’ is next with a darker shade to its mood coloured this time by more atmospheric synth hits. ‘Avon’ then fires sassy breaks at you amid whirring synth lines and heavy-duty bass, leaving the classic drum machine rhythms and improvised tones of ‘Sleepless’ to complete on a slinkier note.
