Ordonez – Afternoon Sadness EP (Mother Recordings)

Some labels are buy on sight, and that is certainly the case with one called Mother Recordings. It is run in great style by the boss man and serves up proper decent treats from across the house spectrum. Now they turn to Ordonez, the top Ecuadorian producer and DJ who makes big moves on his local scene as well as on great labels from Dialtone to Kumasi, Armada Music to Matter of Fact.

The pick here for me is Back Home, It has loose and DIY sounding percussion that is real and authentic. Big trumpet toots add some summeriness to the rubbery drums and vocal cries add that party feeling. On the flip side is the title track Afternoon Sadness. Far from being sad, it is in fact a perfectly al fresco bit of house that is open and groovey, organic and inviting for those lazy sun kissed sessions on the terrace. Overall, two tight tracks that need to be heard this summer.
