Radiolevel – Enter The Square – (Hit By A Truck Records)

Radiolevel is an artist on the rise. Here he makes a debut on the Hit By A Truck Records label and does so with three killer originals, whilst also getting remixed by Crack and Crunch to great effect. Raised in Belgium but born in Guyana in South America, he has a worldly sound that is well infused with all sorts of different genres and here he impresses once more.

Up first is Enter the Square, a slick tech cut that really gets under your skin. It has crisp beats and fluid perc and lithe synths that bring real dynamism to the beats. Minimal but big in impact it’s a fine opener. Then it’s one of this label’s regular artists, Crack and Crunch who then flips the track to his own ends. Also releasing on Stab and Thrill Recordings, he comes up trumps here. His version is deeper and more rubbery, with an undulating drum line that cannot fail to pull you in. Under My Skin is just that – a sumptuous and seductive track that is full of syrupy synths. Freaky vocals and oozing pads add to the lushness and make this one a truly classy affair. Lastly, Differences is a hiccuping bit of micro funk that is made from many different parts that all add up to one killer minimal groove. Loopy but infectious, it is the best of the bunch. Overall, then, this is music for those who know from a label that always comes up with the goods.
