ALBUMS / AMBIENT / ELECTRONIC

Immersion is described as an ‘ambient drone project’, and is a collaboration between Minimal Compact’s Malka Spiegel and Wire’s Colin Newman. It is a hypnotic and thoroughly engaging after hours listen, ambient for sure but also crackling with atmospherics. An attractive set of instrumental sketches using drones and pulses, the short but perfectly formed piece of work delivers the lovely ‘Nanocluster’, signs of a sharper, more metallic edge for ‘Mechanical Creatures’, and a few more substantially weighted tracks towards the end, of which ‘Organic Cities’ is especially good. Effectively the soundtrack to an imaginary film, this collaboration dazzles with its sonic treats, and although short has enough to keep you coming back for more.
