American trio Gossip certainly are flavour of the month at the moment, and it’s all down to their front woman, the larger than life Beth Ditto, who definitely got this outfit more than noticed. ‘Standing In The Way Of Control’ was originally released last year, then someone at Channel 4 read that Beth Ditto ranked #1 in the UK’s leading music rag’s ‘Cool List Of 2006, so before you could shake a shitty stick, Channel 4 were using Gossip on the trailers for their new yoof drama series ‘Skins’, which has resulted in massive demand for a re-release. Belgium’s finest The Dewaele Brothers aka Soulwax provide the remix that’s getting all the T.V.O.D. It comes on like a runaway ‘Trans Europe Express’, imagine Kraftwerk on one and having a good time, meanwhile snatches of Beth’s vocal fly in and around the racing locomotive hats, which make way for a sudden burst of thrashing guitar, but then in drops the filthy disco bassline, and it all falls into place, taking you to the top of the acid peaks, through punk funk ridge, and on to electro valley. ‘Standing In The Way Of Control’ also comes with strong remixes from Playgroup, Headman, Le Tigre and Tronik Youth. Voluptuous fun bags & something to get hold of are the new black. Gossip are in the spotlight.
