OSTRA – LA THÉORIE DES CORPES (SOLID SHAPE RECORDS (04/07)

If you like music that is heady and atmospheric and requires your brain to really engage with it, then this new EP from Ostra is for you. He is a French producer who has a very real and coherent sound that gets displayed in all its glory here. Across five tracks he really sucks you deep into his supple and subtle headspace and you never want to leave.

The five track EP plays out like a mini album. It kicks off with some absorbing atmospherics that come from way below the surface and then rolls out through deep techno, Mills style frantic techno and elongated grooves full of sci-fi spookiness. The production is expert and stripped back. Synths are supple, acid lines are suggestive and the grooves are rolling, rich and rubbery. Artefacts is brooding from the off with its sonar like 303 pulses, Antique Ritual hits harder and then La Horde is a real banger, a smart and heady one. The last cut then takes you on a journey through the outer edges of our galaxy and really rounds things off in magical style.
