One of the highlights on the Paradolia album gets rightfully whipped off as a single. With Alex’s melancholy, heartfelt vocal, it’s this album’s ‘Don’t See The Point’, restoring soul in techno and reinforcing Smoke’s role as one of dance music’s foremost innovators. The fact that his original is joined by three titanic remixes makes this is an incredibly strong set. First, Alex remixes himself, whacking in a big acid riff and upping the mayhem quotient to sonic storm levels. Cologne’s Ada, who made ’94’s classic Blondie album, creates an epic which manages the impossible feat of upping the emotional level with subtle riffs and even some G-funk synth lines. Finally, Slam come up with their first recorded music for a while and turn in a minimal blinder which respects the song while adding their own thoughts. You could imagine Robert Owens singing this and the effect is easily as moving as his early work with Larry Heard.
